Brand new subscriber here. Enjoyed your visit to Staunton COB several years back. My email picked up your weekly comments. Appreciate your theology expressed in straightforward, coherent, plain language.
Sorry the good Brethren in Raleigh could not see clearly enough to continue your pastoral services there. Too many Bethren talk about "authority and inerrancy" but mostly, IMHO, they deny what they think about sex.
Yes, "shake off the dust" is one of my favorite verses. About a year ago we at SCOB got word of a church meeting down the Valley from us that smelled like mutiny. (Sure enough, they did join the Covenant group in the last year.)
In small group discussion sitting around a table where speaker after speaker unloaded a shoulder load of grievances about the District, Elgin, Church Leadership, etc., I finally spoke. I noted if they wanted to leave, they should do so. That, in Staunton COB, we had not experienced the boatload of wrongs they cited in the COB hierarchy.
I noted further Jesus' words tell us that he sent disciples two by two w/ instruction that if villages rejected their message, they "should shake the dust off their sandals and leave."
One good brother w/ tears in his eyes asked me what about the "lost souls" left behind? I responded that in fact those folks had rejected the Disciples' Gospel message. We each must decide to live as God requires, Justly, Kindly, Humbly. But it's our decision.
Giggling with you. And I am glad that you haven't totally shaken the dust from your feet.
Me too!
Petty Jesus! Haha maybe, but I think it’s just a good mental health strategy. Be done when you’re done, and do something physical to mark it.
Not I!
